Wind Energy

What is Wind Energy?

Wind energy is the most economical and efficient resource among renewable energy sources. The electrical energy obtained by wind energy is used to meet many basic needs in daily life. In this type of energy, production is carried out by converting the kinetic energy of the air, or in other words, the energy of motion, into electricity by means of wind turbines. The wind, which is formed as a result of air currents in wind energy, starts to carry kinetic energy and this kinetic energy is used in electricity production by rotating the turbines in the wind power plants.

Today, wind energy meets 5% of the total energy consumption in the world. Wind energy is a type of energy that is used by first converting the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy and then converting it into electrical energy. When the wind energy, which is taken under control, is converted into mechanical energy, the energy obtained runs the generator and provides production through the wind turbine. In addition, wind energy is one of the most stable energy types because it is an energy type that does not have raw material costs and is not affected by seasonal conditions. Therefore, wind energy, which is a very efficient type of energy, is a very profitable choice in terms of cost.

Wind energy is a type of energy that is very suitable for Turkey's geographical characteristics. In Turkey, which has a geography that receives wind throughout the year, electricity is produced from wind energy, especially in Istanbul, Izmir, Çanakkale and Balikesir. The wind energy sector is also highly developed in Turkey and there are 3500-3600 companies actively working in this sector in 2022. The wind energy sector, which employs approximately 30,000 people, is growing and developing every year. Turkey has a wind energy installed power of more than 10,000 MW. This corresponds to 10% of the total electricity installed power in Turkey. Therefore, wind energy is a very important and invested type of energy in Turkey.

There are serious supports of the government towards wind energy in Turkey. All types of renewable energy, especially wind energy, are supported by the state itself, with both incentive and grant programs. For this reason, both local and foreign investors are making serious investments in the wind energy sector. The events organized for the realization of these investments are called energy fairs. The biggest event organized as a wind energy fair in Turkey is the EIF World Energy Congress and Fair.
